Hunger intensifies again in Gaza with the start of the depletion of food stocks

In a statement regarding the latest developments on food security in Gaza, the World Food Program stated that he was unable with its partners to introduce new food supplies to Gaza for more than three weeks, noting that the closure of border crossings prevents any goods – humanitarian or commercial.
Food stocks are enough for two weeks
The World Food Program explained that it has about 5,700 tons of the remaining food stocks in Gaza – it is sufficient to support the program’s operations for a maximum of two weeks. With the deterioration of the security situation, the rapid displacement of the population, and the increasing needs, the UN program decided to distribute the largest possible food, as quickly as possible.
The World Food Program currently supports bakeries, kitchens that are hot meals, and the distribution of food parcels directly to families.
The World Food Program stated that it reduces food rations in order to reach the largest possible number of people. The program plans to distribute food parcels to half a million people; The reduced volume parcel is enough for a week for about a week.
The World Food Program and its partners stored more than 85 thousand tons of food commodities outside Gaza, ready to enter them if the border crossings were opened. The UN program said it needs 30,000 tons of food per month to meet the basic needs of about 1.1 million people.
A huge rise in food prices
The UN program reported that food prices have increased dramatically inside Gaza. A 25 kg wheat flour bag is sold at $ 50, an increase of 400 percent compared to pre -March 18 prices; Cooking gas prices increased by 300 percent compared to February.
The World Food Program urged all parties to give priority to the needs of civilians, protect humanitarian workers and United Nations staff, and allow aid to enter Gaza immediately.
The World Food Program stated that it needs financing of $ 265 million over the next six months to support the saving of lives that will help 1.5 million people in Gaza and the West Bank.
