These efforts show the state’s commitment to developing a sustainable and innovative airline sector, which keeps pace with global developments and enhances the UAE’s position as a global aviation center.
The UAE has strengthened its position as one of the most prominent international aviation centers during the year 2024, as the sector witnessed prominent developments that included more investments in infrastructure, enhancing clean energy initiatives, and several initiatives related to sustainability support in the sector, whether with regard to the expansion of the use of sustainable aviation fuel, or initiatives related to ground operations in airports by service providers.
Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi is a prominent example of the state’s commitment to sustainability, as Abu Dhabi airports announced last February that the airport has a classification of 3 pearls within the evaluation system in the pearls of the “sustainability” program in the construction phase, which makes it one of the largest buildings in the Emirates that achieves this prestigious classification, which reflects the airport’s commitment to strict environmental standards in design and construction.
The airport landscape coordination project reflects an area of ​​480,000 square meters of green spaces with sustainable design, new standards for sustainable design in the United Arab Emirates, which enhances its center in innovation and environmental commitment.
The airport is designed to provide an experiment that is the most innovative and smooth between international airports in this sector, as it corresponds to the highest quality standards, and exceeds the expectations of travelers.
In 2024, Zayed International Airport won the airport service quality award issued by the International Airports Council, as it is the best airport in the world in terms of the experience of the coming passengers.

The year 2024 witnessed a group of strategic advertisements that strengthened the performance of the aviation sector, the most prominent of which is the announcement of the expansion and start of the construction of the new passengers building at Al Maktoum Airport at a cost of 128 billion dirhams, to be the largest in the world with a final capacity of 260 million passengers, to be five times the current Dubai International Airport, and to include 400 gates of aircraft.
The new Dubai Airport, “Al Maktoum International Airport” in Dubai, is a symbol of this anticipation, as it embodies the emirate’s ambition in global leadership and the leadership of travel in the coming years, which is expected to witness an increase in the movement of passengers by more than 4% in the Emirates.
Al Maktoum Airport is not limited to being a crossing gateway for travelers, but rather a nucleus of a new integrated city that provides an ideal environment for living, work and investment.
During October 2024, Dubai airports announced the launch of the largest solar panels installation project on the surface of any airport in the world, and will meet the energy produced from the panels 6.5% of Dubai International Airport needs and 20% of the needs of Al Maktoum International Airport.
The project includes the installation of 62,904 solar panels via Dubai International Airport and Dubai and World Central Airport – Al Maktoum International Airport “DWC”.
Sharjah Airport pays great attention to environmental responsibility and sustainability, and has strengthened its advanced position within the carbon accreditation program for airports applied by the International Airports Council, by renewing its adoption as a neutral airport.
