The UAE has created a charter concerned with the quality of digital life for children, on the sidelines of the activities of the World Government Summit in Dubai, in line with the year of society, to enhance children’s protection, especially after the data showed that 33% of them were exposed to electronic bullying in 2019.
The first charter of its kind in the region is enhanced by the partnership between the government and private sectors to ensure a safe and balanced digital environment for children and families, and establishes the foundations of joint cooperation in developing policies and initiatives that enhance the quality of digital life.
The charter supports children’s safety on the Internet, providing a safe and appropriate digital environment for them, limiting children’s exposure to harmful content, ensuring respect and protection of children’s rights in the digital environment, by enhancing cooperation between various partners, as well as focusing on cybersecurity, and protecting children from e -bullying.
While Terboon told “Emirates Today” that the terrifying YouTube scenes, which appear for children through dedicated algorithms, are not only limited to dismay, but also leave profound psychological effects that affect their behavior, causing clear disturbances in the child, stressing the need to enhance control and impose tight protection on the content of children to ensure their psychological safety.
In detail, Maryam Mohamed Al Hammadi, the mother of a 8 -year -old girl, stated that she started noticing unusual changes in her daughter’s behavior, especially with regard to her sleep, explaining that her daughter was always enjoying watching videos on the “YouTube” platform, but in recent times she began to appear sudden and unjustified fear when bedtime.
“When I repeatedly asked my daughter about the reason, she told me that she feels that a person is constantly watching her, and that he was hiding at the bottom of her bed,” she said, noting that her daughter’s behavior prompted her to worry, especially since she was not suffering from these concerns previously and after searching the list of scenes that my daughter was watching, she discovered that she was subjected to terrifying clips on YouTube, containing scary scenes of people who suddenly come out The family, which made the girl imagine the presence of an invisible person watching her during her sleep.
For her part, Umm Abdullah, the mother of the child Hassan (9 years), confirmed that she had noticed a noticeable change in the behavior of her son, especially with regard to going to the bath With it.
She pointed out that after talking to her son and understanding the reason for this change, she discovered that he was subjected to a terrifying content on YouTube, as he was showing terrifying heads that suddenly come out of the toilets, which greatly affected his psyche and led to an increase in his fear of the bathroom, noting that she concluded that her son believed that what he saw might happen to him, and therefore he began to escape from going to the bathroom and feels confused.
To that, the head of the Department of Studies and Research at the Emirates Association for Child Protection, Badria Al -Dhanhani, said that “YouTube displays terrifying scenes that show parents in the images of monsters that do not trust, which shakes the emotion of children and distorts the concepts of safety and love for them, as these scenes are represented by artificial intelligence in the murderous father and the mother who suddenly turns into a terrifying monster that devour their children after they were fed and cared for, It sneaks smartly to the minds of children through directed algorithms, which makes them unable to distinguish between imagination and reality.
She said, “The impact of these scenes is reflected in many disorders, including involuntary urination, hesitation in showing feelings, increasing aggression, in addition to a decline in the ability to focus in school, and as a result of sitting for long hours in front of a vacation or smart plate, children are subjected to continuous visual motivation, which makes them think of those scenes extensively, which affects their psychological and physical safety represented in the hyperplasia and frequent speech, as well Feelings of constant anxiety and dispersion they suffer from, which makes them head to empty their feelings in an unhealthy way, such as showing aggression towards others or emotional withdrawal.

Instead of indulging in the world of screens, she advised to direct children to physical and intellectual activities that contribute to developing their social and mental skills, stressing that spending time in sports or manual activities with the family is an ideal alternative to sitting in front of television or smartphones, as it enhances their social communication and contributes to the development of their personalities.
In the same context, the Deputy Committee for Studies and Research at the Emirates Child Protection Association, Dr. Hamad Al -Baqishi, stressed that the terrifying clips are not random but are directed through algorithms that target children accurately, so it is necessary to intervene, whether from the competent authorities or companies that owe these platforms, calling for the need to enhance the monitoring and liquidation tools of the content directed to children more, and the application of stronger protection measures to ensure the psychological safety of children.
He noted that enhancing societal awareness in the nature of the scenes that show children has a great role in protecting children, as parents must be fully aware of the risks that their children may be exposed to while using the Internet, indicating that despite the benefits that the Internet provides, the associated risks cannot be ignored, which requires the necessity of monitoring children’s behavior on the Internet and activating the appropriate safety settings.
On the other hand, the psychological educational advisor at the Associated Association of Fujairah Social Cultural Association, Hanin Al -Hajjar, confirmed that the horrific impact of the scenes that children are exposed to online extends to several areas in their daily lives, especially in the performance of school duties and social interaction.
Al -Hajjar believes that the psychological disorders that children suffer from due to these scenes also affect their social behavior, as their interaction with their classmates declines, and they avoid participating in group activities, pointing out that the psychological impact may reach greater degrees of anxiety and fear, which makes some children unable to perform simple daily activities, such as going to the bathroom alone at home or while they are in school, which reflects the size of the effect The negative on their daily lives, stressing that patriarchal control is an important factor in preserving the mental health of children.
