The United Nations welcomes the announcement of an expanded new government in Syria

In his daily press conference, Dujarik said that the envoy of Pederson encourages the continuous efforts made by the business draining authorities towards a reliable, comprehensive and sustainable transition, in terms of governance, as well as in terms of the following transitional steps.
He explained that this includes the formation of a temporary legislative council and a committee for drafting the constitution, in addition to preparations for free and fair elections according to the highest international standards, in line with the basic principles Security Council Resolution 2254.
It is noteworthy that Resolution 2254 issued in 2015 set a timetable for political transition in Syria, including negotiations on the establishment of a university and credible government, and set the process of setting the new constitution and called for free and fair elections.
Dujarik announced that the special envoy intends to visit Damascus soon to continue his contacts with the business draining authorities, in addition to a wide range of Syrians and other main stakeholders in Syria.
