The African Union clarifies the impact of American drawings on trade and cooperation

The African Union said today, Monday, that the American customs duties imposed on the countries of the continent threaten contracts of trade and mutual cooperation.
The Chairman of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssef, expressed his deep concern about customs duties and urged the US government to reconsider these measures that threaten decades of mutual benefit cooperation.

The danger of American fees for trade

The customs recognition announced by US President Donald Trump last week affecting many countries on the continent, as Washington will impose on them a large number of new minimum fee of 10%.

The customs duties imposed on Madagascar will reach 47%, Omuritius 40%, Botswana 37%, Equatorial Guinea 30%, and South Africa 30%.

The head of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssef, from Djibouti, confirmed that he believes in building bridges, not barriers, and remains committed to working with the United States to enhance partnerships of mutual benefit.
Meanwhile, the organization also announced that the continental free trade zone, which was officially operated in the year 2021, provides wide opportunities for a deeper economic and free economic participation.
