After two months of closure, the border crossing between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Burundi was opened

The border crossing between the Republic of and during last December, according to what was announced by the authorities of both countries.
The authorities on the Congolese side and a Burundian police official at the border confirmed that the crossing was reopened today.

The border point is located on a main road linking the economic capital of Burundi, Bujumbura, to the city of Uvira in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
It is reported that the authorities Burundi closed the border last December 10, after a rebel movement took control of the city of Uvira, which led to the disruption of a vital crossing point for merchants and residents on both sides of the border.
