Causing complete chaos… complete darkness covering large parts of the Dominican Republic


, four months after a widespread power outage throughout the country.

The state-owned Dominican Electricity Company (ETED) said "A major disruption occurred in the interconnected national electricity grid, affecting electricity services in part of the country"

An AFP correspondent in the capital, Santo Domingo, confirmed that there was a power outage in parts of the city on Monday.

The ETED company announced that it was working to gradually restore power.

In mid-November, a power outage caused most parts of the Caribbean country, including Santo Domingo and the tourist city of Punta Cana, to be plunged into darkness for approximately five hours.

Total chaos and heavy traffic congestion

This outage caused complete chaos, with heavy traffic congestion and subway service in Santo Domingo halted for hours.

Power outages are frequent in the Dominican Republic, and can last for up to ten hours.

This is due to several reasons, including lack of maintenance, malfunctions and illegal connections.
