The state’s roads last year witnessed 47 electric bike accidents that resulted in six deaths and 69 injuries, according to the statistics of the Ministry of Interior, which were published on its website.

In its digital awareness campaigns, the Abu Dhabi Civil Defense Authority warned that the excessive shipping of the “scooter” leads to its ignition, pointing to the need to enhance its users’ awareness of protecting lives and property, indicating that there are a set of errors and behaviors that may lead to the outbreak of fires in electrical bicycles.

It also called for adhering to the guidelines of safe driving leadership for electrical bikes, through six important rules to maintain their safety and the safety of others, is to wear a head protective helmet and a reflective jacket, the use of paths designated for bikes in the traffic themselves, and the commitment to the limited speed, and avoiding carrying passengers or any heavy weights that the driver may lose its balance, not to use bilateral headphones, and respect the traffic lights and rules.

Individuals emphasized that electrical bicycles (scooters) have become a main and low -cost method that depend on them to move to workplaces, shopping, schools, etc., noting that some neglecting safety guidelines and safe driving of these bikes may fall into dangerous accidents that cause them injuries and fractures, as well as a fire in the battery.

They told «Emirates Today» that one of the most common mistakes that cause “scooter” accidents is that the means of protection from injury, the most important of which are the helmet of the head, driving in the places of car movement, and not conducting periodic maintenance. Traffic experts warned that the injuries resulting from bicycle accidents in general increase by 35 times the causes of car accidents, while the people who drive them without wearing a “protective helmet” are four times more than they wear.
