7 procedures to ensure the safety of students online during distance learning

The Ministry of Education stressed the importance of enhancing student safety in the digital environment, through a set of preventive measures that ensure safe and effective use of the Internet during distance learning, within an integrated framework aimed at protecting children from potential digital risks.

Parental control

In details, the Ministry, through the “Parents’ Guide to Distance Learning,” for the third semester of the 2025-2026 academic year, which Emirates Today reviewed, called for installing parental control programs to limit access to inappropriate content or sites not related to learning, stressing the importance of placing learning devices in common places within the home, allowing for continuous monitoring of children’s activity and enhancing transparency in use.

Approved guidelines

It also recommended that parents review the information and communications technology guidelines approved in schools, and adhere to them to ensure a safe digital environment, in addition to the need to know the official communication channels with the school to report any concerns related to children’s activity online, or any inappropriate behaviors that may appear on learning platforms.

Instant reporting

The Ministry stressed the importance of immediately reporting any inappropriate content or behavior that is monitored, as well as prior review of the timetables for virtual classes, and lists of approved educational applications and platforms, to ensure that children’s use of digital technologies is regulated and directed towards clear educational goals.

She stressed the importance of enhancing digital awareness among students, by directing them to responsible use of the Internet, establishing the principles of privacy and not sharing personal data, in addition to developing their ability to distinguish between reliable and misleading content, which contributes to building a conscious and safe digital personality.

Role integration

She stressed the importance of integrating the roles between the family and the school in monitoring the digital behavior of students, through continuous communication and exchanging notes, which allows early intervention when any negative indicators are detected, enhances a digital educational climate based on trust and discipline, and supports the continuity of learning efficiently and safely.

This trend reflects the Ministry’s keenness to build a safe and sustainable digital learning environment, based on an effective partnership between the school and the family, and a balance between benefiting from technology and protecting students from its risks, in a way that enhances parents’ confidence and supports the continuity of the educational process efficiently.
