Human Rights Commission: Israeli forces have killed 71 civilians since the ceasefire in Lebanon

According to the evaluation of the First Commission, at least 71 civilians have been killed by the Israeli forces in Lebanon since the ceasefire came into effect on November 27 last year. Among the victims are 14 women and 9 children. Also, more than 92,000 people are still displaced from their homes, and fear continues to control people, according to a valuable commission spokesman.

Mr. Al -Khaitan indicated that the southern suburb of Beirut was recently, for the first time, since the ceasefire, to bomb in two separate incidents. The targeted area was in the vicinity of two schools.

He said that Israeli air strikes hit a newly -established medical center run by the Islamic Medical Association in Naqoura on April 3, which led to the entire center of the center and damage to two ambulances. It also reported that the Israeli air strikes affected several other towns in southern Lebanon this month, and killed at least 6 people.

According to the Israeli army, at least five missiles, mortar shells, and a march plane from Lebanon have been launched towards northern Israel since the ceasefire began. It is reported that tens of thousands of Israelis are still displaced from the area.

The UNHCR spokesman said in his statement: “This violence must stop immediately. All parties to the conflict must respect international humanitarian law, including the principles of discrimination, proportion and precaution. Immediate, independent and neutral investigations must be conducted in all allegations related to grave violations of international humanitarian law, and those who are responsible for them must be held accountable.”

Mr. Al -Khaitan said that all displaced people in Lebanon and Israel should be able to return safely to their homes. He stressed the necessity of removing the unexploded munitions from the remnants of the war in southern Lebanon so that people can resume their lives safely upon return.

He said that the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volcker Turk urges all parties to respect the obligations they pledged under the ceasefire, “Who must turn into a permanent endowment of hostilities. It also calls for it to ensure that the Security Council Resolution 1701 is fully respected and implemented in its entirety.”
