Türkiye is holding 525 suspects in the largest drug control operation

Turkish police detained 525 people on the background of suspicion of drug trafficking, during an operation at dawn today, Thursday, across the capital, Ankara, while Interior Minister Ali Yerli Kaya described it as “the largest drug operation in the country’s history.”
The minister added that the operation included thousands of police and police dogs, drones and helicopters, and targeted 625 sites.

Technical monitoring

The minister pointed out that the raids came after a “technical and material monitoring” of some of the suspects for six months.
Yerli Kaya said that there was a clash that many detainees involved in the sale of drugs “in neighborhoods and streets via electronic platforms.”
The Minister of the Interior wrote in his account on the X -platform: “We made it clear to these toxins again and clearly that there is no room for progress in the streets you entered.”
The Ministry of Interior said that strict procedures will continue and more people may be held in the coming days.

Türkiye’s raids

Türkiye’s raids come in the wake of a widespread operation across Europe yesterday, Tuesday, which targeted drug trafficking and money laundering networks at the international level.
More than 230 people were arrested during the operation led by the European Union’s law enforcement agency (Europol) and the police forces in the Netherlands, Turkey, Germany, Spain and Belgium, during which $ 400 million assets were confiscated.
