Italy is seeking to spend at least 2% of the GDP on the defense sector during the year 2025, which puts the country on the path of fulfilling the goal set by NATO (NATO) after more than a decade of its approval.

Giorgiti said during a parliamentary hearing that Italy is on the path of spending 2% of the GDP on the defense “and in a more general way of the security of the country,” according to the current accounts.
It is noteworthy that the percentage of spending on the defense sector reached 1.49 % of Italian GDP during 2024.
“We are also aware of the current tensions, the need to increase spending in the coming years,” the Finance Minister said.
