المملكة: A Saudi achievement in Geneva .. A smart device for the treatment and follow -up of multiple sclerosis patients

Professor Kholoud Al -Muqrin, Professor of Experimental Physics, Rumors and Radiological Protection at Princess Noura Bint Abdul Rahman University, has achieved a prominent scientific achievement by obtaining the silver medal at the Geneva International Exhibition for Inventions.
This honor came in appreciation of its innovative invention entitled “An advanced medical device integrated with a technical system to help multiple sclerosis” MS “.

How to make the device

Professor Dr. Al -Muqrin indicated that the invention is a developed manual and wearing an advanced device, which works in integration with a smart electronic application.
She explained that the application provides three varying degrees of massage “low, medium, high” that the patient can choose in proportion to the intensity of the attack he is exposed to.
This directed massage aims to improve the efficiency of muscle blood flow in the patient during attacks, and to contribute to preventing muscle relaxation or weakness.

Improving patients’ lives

Professor Dr. Al -Muqrin indicated that the main goal of developing this device is to enable multiple sclerosis patients to better deal with the challenges of the disease and improve the quality of their daily lives.
The device also seeks to alleviate the symptoms associated with the disease, which include relapses and sudden attacks, disturbing feeling of tingling or numbness in the extremities, in addition to cases of weakness or muscle spasm.

Features of invention

Among the most prominent features of the invention, as Professor Dr. Al -Muqrin explained, is the connection of the electronic application integrated with a dimension to the patient’s doctor.
This feature provides the doctor’s possibility of accurate and continuous follow -up of all the attacks that the patient is exposed to, in addition to the biological indicators associated with him.
The application also facilitates direct and immediate communication between the doctor and the patient in the event that the latter faces strong attacks or relapses that require urgent intervention or consultation.
And participated in the development of this innovative invention, along with Professor Dr. Al -Muqrin, a team of students of the Department of Physics at the Faculty of Science at Princess Noura Bint Abdul Rahman University, and they are: Islam Barnawi, Dalal Al -Matroudi, and Al -Jazi Al -Qadi, which reflects the spirit of research cooperation and scientific innovation at the university.
