Jamaican writer: Abu Dhabi is an ideal platform for enhancing literary cooperation between the UAE and the Caribbean

Abu Dhabi, April 27 / WAM / Kwami Mac Verson, the Jamaican writer, confirmed that his visit to Abu Dhabi constituted a valuable opportunity to discover new cultures and enhance bridges of literary cooperation between Emirati and Phagiene writers, noting the great growth and development capabilities, which characterized the relationship between the Emirati literary scene and Caribbean literature.

He described the UAE as an ideal environment for exchanging creative ideas and cultural openness.

This came during his participation in a dialogue session on the sidelines of the thirty -fourth session of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair; He touched on his victory “the Commonwealth Award for short story 2023” after his participation in the competition nine times, explaining that the winning story dealt with historical facts related to the burning of ethnically mixed societies in the United States during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, highlighting the suffering of the old soldiers and ethnic minorities.

He stressed that his literary goal is to enhance awareness of marginalized history, through stories that reveal the suffering of man and the expansion of the circle of human understanding.

Mac Verson revealed that his novel “OCOEE” is on its way to turn into a movie, considering this step an important station to spread Caribbean literature and reach it to a wider world audience.

Mac Verson reviewed his literary beginnings, explaining that the educational environment in his childhood was focusing on Western literature, with the omission of local literature, before this reality witnessed a gradual shift thanks to the successes of global gamiki writers, including “Marlon James” who won the “Booker”, stressing that “Jamaican literature” derives its strength from a long history of suffering related to slavery And colonialism, which gives it a unique character shows the conflict of identity and self -search.

He pointed out that the discovery of his literary voice came as a result of a long journey of reading and meditation in the personal and association experience, which contributed to the development of his narrative style over time, pointing out that the writing process was never easy, as he continued to constantly discover new sounds and methods that reflect his creative specificity.

He explained that he wrote in various literary fields, from science fiction to the historical novel, and sometimes used pseudonyms to separate his different patterns and preserve the expectations of his fans for each literary work.

Mac Verson concluded his speech by emphasizing the importance of continuing to present stories inspired by international events, noting that history remains an essential inspiration in his literary experience.
