"Abu Dhabi International Book" .. rare publications that list the date of Arabic publishing

Abu Dhabi, April 28 / WAM / The Abu Dhabi International Book Fair provided a platform for many international publishing houses to display a group of rare manuscripts and publications dating back centuries.

“Peter Harrington”, a rare book of rare book, while participating in the exhibition, shows a rare collection of the first printed books in the Arab world.

The exhibits include ten historical publications and publications issued by the press established by Napoleon in Egypt – the French Eastern Press in Alexandria (which was later called the “National Press” after its transfer to Cairo), in addition to the Bulaq Press – the first government press in Egypt, and these holdings tell how this period witnessed a revolution in the field of printing at the level of the Arab world.

Among the most prominent of these holdings is a rare bulletin issued by the Napoleon Mobile Press in Alexandria in 1799, and it is one of the first printed works in Egypt using animated letters, which is an embodiment of Napoleon’s employment of the press as a strategic tool for influence.

The group also includes the release of the Bulaq Press for the book “One Thousand and One Nights” in 1835, which is the first complete version to be printed in the Arab world, in addition to a French -Arab dictionary dating back to 1799 from the issuance of the National Press, Quranic and grammatical texts issued by the Bulaq Press, which constitute great models for the magic of Arabic printing in its beginnings.

Boom Harrington, owner of “Peter Harrington”, stressed the keenness to participate in the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair periodically since 2016, pointing out that the Middle East region represented about 15 to 20 percent of the house sales, and the UAE has the largest share of this percentage.

He explained that the publications presented in the current session of the exhibition are one of the most ancient publications, and highlight the history of printing in the Arab world and its stages of development.
