The increasing needs in Chad with the continued flow of Sudanese refugees from Darfur

Speaking to reporters in Geneva from the Chadian capital, Najamina, Magat Gais, the representative of the country, said this. “Sudden flow” It caused the escalation of violence in the North Darfur region, which “It causes a collective displacement at a disturbing pace.”

Ms. Gas added that these recent moves come in the wake of “Brutal attacks” It was launched by armed groups on the camps of the displaced, including Zamzam, Abu Shuk, and the city of El -Fasher, which “Horror broadcast widely” among the population. She added that the refugees coming to Chad reported that more than 10,000 people were still on their way to the border to escape violence.

Dangerous trips

She said: “Many newly arriving refugees have reported that they were subjected to serious violence and human rights violations that forced them to flee. They talked about the killing of men, women and girls of sexual violence, and the burning of entire homes. Their trips to safety were fraught with risks, as the refugees faced theft and extortion at checkpoints and repeated threats throughout the way.”

The Commission’s representative explained that most of the refugees arrived without anything, including people with special needs, including injured, children who are not accompanied by their families, pregnant women and breastfeeding women, and the elderly. She stressed the need to stop attacks on civilians in Sudan, and to provide a safe passage for those fleeing to stay.

Call to increase support

Ms. Gas said that despite the exceptional efforts made by local societies and authorities, the ability to absorb the new expatriates “Strongly exhausting,” Chad is already hosting 1.3 million refugees, including 794,000 people who crossed the border with Sudan since the beginning of the conflict.

She said: “While the country continues to show a noticeable solidarity in hosting refugees, it cannot afford this burden on its own. Human resources throughout the country are still very limited, while the needs of water, shelter, health, education and protection increase.”

While the Commission and its partners provide life -saving aid in border points and resettlement sites, current efforts are still far from what is sufficient given the size of the crisis. The UNHCR, through its representative in Chad, urged the international community to intensify support for the urgent response.

She said: “We urgently call for an increase in solidarity and immediate financing to ensure that these population at risk gets the protection and assistance they need now.”

It should be noted that out of $ 409 million required to respond to the refugee crisis in Chad in 2025, only 20 percent has been funded so far.
