Leaders participating in the G20 Summit welcome the US peace plan regarding Ukraine

A number of leaders of countries participating in the G20 summit currently being held in South Africa welcomed the continued American efforts to bring peace to Ukraine, stressing their support for a path that leads to a just and lasting settlement of the conflict.
The leaders stated in a joint statement announced by the European Council in Brussels that the initial draft of the 28-point American plan “includes important elements that will be essential for achieving a just and lasting peace.”
The leaders added that this draft “constitutes a basis that can be developed,” stressing their readiness to engage in completing work on the plan to ensure the sustainability of any future agreement.
The leaders stressed their adherence to the principle that “borders may not be changed by force,” while at the same time expressing their concern about the proposed restrictions on the Ukrainian armed forces in the plan, which may make Ukraine “vulnerable to attack in the future.”
The leaders stressed that the implementation of the provisions related to the European Union or NATO requires the approval of both the Union and NATO countries, and they pointed to the strength of the continuing international support for Ukraine, explaining that coordination will continue closely between Kiev and its allies, led by the United States, during the coming days.
