“Drones” to clean the facades of the metro and tram stations in Dubai

The Roads and Communications Authority in Dubai, in cooperation with the company «Kiolis MHI», launched the company responsible for operating and maintaining the Dubai Metro and operating Dubai Tram, a pilot program for the employment of drone technology in cleaning the facades of the Metro Stations and Dubai Tarm.

The authority said, in a press statement, yesterday, that the launch of the initiative comes within the framework of its commitment to explore future solutions, which enhance safety levels, contribute to improving the efficiency of resource use, and supports environmental goals with high quality.

She added: “The project represents a remarkable transformation of traditional cleaning methods, which required up to 15 individuals for each station. As for the new technology, it depends on a smaller work team consisting of eight individuals, which contributes to reducing human intervention by up to 50%, and limits the potential risks associated with work in high or difficult to reach areas, as this technology achieves high efficiency in cleaning.”

The Director of the Maintenance Department at the Train Corporation in the authority, Mohamed Al -Amiri, stated that the experimental project reflects the authority’s keenness to adopt innovative technologies that support the sustainability goals of the Emirate of Dubai, pointing out that the use of drones is a step towards adopting more intelligent maintenance practices, which reduces the environmental impact, and provides a safer work environment for workers.

He added that the new technology contributes to reducing the exposure of the technical team to exposure to the dangers of work in high places, in addition to the economic aspect of water consumption of the station, which is an important addition to the ecosystem’s strategy.
