Japan’s economy shrinks 0.7 % during the first quarter on an annual basis

Tokyo on May 16/ WAM/ Today’s “Friday” data showed that the Japanese economy shrinks by 0.7 % on an annual basis during the first quarter of 2025, amid the recession of private consumption and low exports.

The Japanese Cabinet Office stated that the latest growth rate for the real GDP is its first four -quarters.

The gross domestic product “modified by inflation” decreased by 0.2 % on a quarterly basis between January and March, according to the office in a preliminary report.

On a quarterly basis, exports decreased by 0.6 %, while imports that negatively affect GDP increased by 2.9 %.

Special consumption, which represents more than half of Japan’s economic output, increased by 0.04 %, due to the impact of high prices, according to the office.
