Opening the doors of Sharjah museums for free to visitors to celebrate the International Museum Day

Sharjah, May 16 / WAM / The Sharjah Museums Authority celebrates World Museums Day, which falls on May 18 of each year, by launching a series of community and educational events that will continue from 15 to 22 May, in addition to opening the doors of all its museums for free to visitors next Sunday, May 18.

This initiative comes within the framework of the authority’s keenness to enhance the role of museums in cultural and social life, and to highlight its contributions in spreading knowledge, preserving heritage, and interacting with different groups of society, in line with the slogan of this year, “The future of museums in rapidly changed societies”.

His Excellency Aisha Rashid Dimas, Director General of the Sharjah Museums Authority, stressed that celebrating the International Day of Museums reflects the authority’s commitment to continuing to provide advanced museum experiences that contribute to supporting the lifelong learning process and enhancing the relationship between the museum and society.

She said that the accompanying activities highlights the infinite cultural heritage, and targets various groups of society, pointing to the authority’s keenness to employ modern technology in developing the museum experience, reflecting the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, to make museums cultural and knowledge beacons open to everyone.

The activities of the commission include four main stations, the first begins in Sharjah Museums deployed in Sharjah and the cities of Khorfakkan and Kalba, and includes various educational and interactive workshops, including a workshop design of the future museums, the boat industry, and the digital coloring of marine creatures, and aims to integrate education with entertainment and stimulate creative thinking in children and emerging.

The second station, in “Al -Zahia City Center”, hosts the effectiveness of “Live the experience of museums with all your senses” during the period from 15 to 18 May, where selected holdings of Sharjah museums are presented in an interactive sensory way that allows visitors to interact with them through the five senses, in an experience aimed at enhancing an integrated understanding of cultural heritage.

As for the third station, it will be held at the Sharjah Heritage Museum on May 16, and the Emirati researcher and narrator, Moza bin Zaiba, “Umm Azzan”, presented a tour entitled “Rehab of Live Heritage”, during which it reviews stories from the local folk heritage and the details of ancient Emirati life.

The events conclude on Saturday, May 17 with a closed session under the title “Innovation in the application: The role of technology in shaping museum experiences”, with the participation of a number of specialists and experts, and aims to discuss ways to benefit from modern technologies in developing museum work and enhancing societal interaction.

In the context of celebrating the occasion, the authority announced the lighting of a number of its buildings for three days from 18 to 20 May, including the headquarters of the authority, the Sharjah Museum of Antiquities, the Sharjah Fun, the Sharjah Arts Museum, and the monument of resistance, in an initiative symbolizing the role of museums as cultural radiation centers in the emirate.
