Standard number .. sharp hunger affects 295 million people in 53 countries
This comes due to conflicts and other crises, according to a UN report issued on Friday.
Numbers about sharp food insecurity
For the sixth year in a row, the number of people with severe food insecurity, according to the global report on food crises, has increased.
In total, 295.3 million people suffered from high levels of food insecurity last year in 53 countries of the 65 countries covered in the report.
“Hunger in the twenty -first century is not justified. We cannot deal with the empty stomach with empty hands and the appearance of it.”
The spread of hunger
Guterres said, “From Gaza to Sudan, through Yemen and Mali, the catastrophic hunger paid from conflicts and other factors reached new standard levels, motivating families to the brink of famine.”
He affirmed that “the message is evident. Hunger and malnutrition are spreading at a faster pace than our ability to respond, but at the global level, a third of the total food production is still lost or wasted.”
Conflicts and violence were the main cause of this situation in 20 countries and a region, as 140 million people faced severe starvation, according to the report.
Economic shocks
The maximum weather conditions were the main cause of 18 countries and economic shocks in 15 countries, which included a group of 155 million people.
The report warned of bleak prospects in 2025 after major donor countries decided to reduce their humanitarian aid significantly.
Guterres stressed that this is not only caused by the failure of the systems, but also the failure of humanity.
