Agreement between "Balance Council" and"RTX" and"Emirates Aluminum" To develop gallium production in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi, May 16 / WAM / The Balance Council announced today the signing of an agreement with the American company “RTX”, one of the largest airlines and defense companies globally, and the Emirates International Aluminum Company, the largest high -quality aluminum producer in the world, to enable the UAE International Aluminum to produce gallium metal – the primary metal that is used in supply chains worldwide.

The agreement aims to create a project to extract and refine gallium from the Alumina refinery of the Emirates International Aluminum Company in Abu Dhabi and to consolidate the UAE position as the second largest Galium producing country in the world.

Galium metal is used in many advanced industries, including in the fields of semiconductor, electric vehicles, medical devices, and communications infrastructure. Galium is one of the basic minerals in the defensive industries for its role in making advanced military radars.

The project supports securing corporate supply of this vital metal, including RTX, and enhances the contribution of the Balance Council to implementing this project through the “Economic Balance Program”, which focuses on attracting advanced technology, transferring knowledge, and establishing national industrial capabilities that contribute to enhancing state industrial security.

On this occasion, His Excellency Dr. Nasser Hamid Al -Nuaimi, Secretary -General of the Balance Council, said that the project is consistent with the trends of the new council strategy for the years 2025-2028, which focuses on building a national and competitive industrial sector, developing an advanced infrastructure that enables the achievement of industrial and technical security, by enhancing specific investments, expanding strategic partnerships locally and globally, and enabling national competencies.

He stressed that the project constitutes an important station in the path of developing biomedics in the country, by enabling the UAE to lead global leadership in Gallery production, pointing out that the strategic impact of the project includes strengthening the state’s capabilities in production and export, establishing an independent national base to secure global supply chains, and consolidating the UAE’s position as an advanced industrial center at the international level.

For his part, Paulo Dal Chen, First Vice President of Operations and Supply Series of RTX, said that the aviation and defense industries are largely dependent on the availability of rare vital elements, and today’s agreement is an important step towards ensuring reliable supplies of gallium, which is included in the manufacture of basic systems and solutions in these two sectors.

Abdel Nasser Bin Kalban, CEO of Emirates International Aluminum Company, explained that Galium is a very important mineral as one of the main elements in the advanced electronics systems industry, which is one of the minerals that are difficult to produce commercially, stressing that the agreement provides an opportunity to develop a new source of gallium in the UAE, which contributes to providing additional revenues for the Emirates International Aluminum Company, and strengthening the industrial sector in the country, in line with a strategy National industry growth is a project of 300 billion.

It is expected that the UAE International Aluminum and RTX will enter into an agreement to study the feasibility of the highly purity gallium production project from the long alumina refinery of the company in Abu Dhabi, which is one of the vital industrial facilities for converting bauxite ore to alumina, the basic material of aluminum melting, where gallium is extracted from the bauxite ore in small quantities, and is considered from the aluminum metal impurities that which is Micro -management requires production operations, especially in fine industries that require high purity levels.
