Holding a session of political consultations between Palestine and Italy

& nbsp; the Director of the European Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ambassador Adel Attia, held a session of political consultations with the Director General of Political Affairs and Security at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Pasakali Ferrara, in the Italian capital, Rome. Attia called on the Italian government to take decisive and clear positions in international forums, through its United Nations votes on decisions related to the rights of our Palestinian people, in addition to its commitment to decisions issued by the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court, regarding Israeli violations in the Palestinian land. Italy urged to play a more vibrant role within the European Union and the G7 and through its participation in the peace conference committees in New York next month, to ensure to reach more practical solutions, which includes international recognition of the State of Palestine. During the session, Ambassador Attia also called on the Italian government to continue and increase its support for the Palestinian government, and to support the construction and strengthening of its institutions and capabilities, in light of the occupation state’s lack of collapsing from attacking the authority and paralyzing its capabilities in providing basic services and protection for the Palestinian people. He emphasized the extreme necessity to continue to support & quot; UNRWA & quot, and that it is not a substitute for it in providing services to our people in these tragic circumstances. He said that this visit coincides with the commemoration of the 77th anniversary of the Nakba and the displacement of the Palestinians from their land, but today we are witnessing events equal to its cruelty events of the painful catastrophe, and often exceeded them, because our people in Gaza have no safe shelter for 20 months. Attia appreciated the Italian government for its humanitarian support for our Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, especially through the & quot; Food for Gaza & quot;, and their support for the health sector in Palestine. He also praised the Italian efforts made to contribute to the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip when the aggression stopped, but all of this must be accompanied by real political efforts, Israel is subject to justice and accountability and guarantees the dignity, rights and security of our Palestinian people permanently. Attia welcomed the European Union’s decision to review the partnership agreement between it and Israel, stressing that it is an unprecedented step and in the right direction, and that there is an urgent need to put such pressures on the Israeli government. On the bilateral level, he stressed the importance of holding the joint government committee between Palestine and Italy this year, and the need to enhance cooperation in the economic, health, agricultural, cultural and academic exchange, as well as cooperation in the field of energy and technology. For his part, Ferrara stated that the current tragedy that the Palestinian people are going through, especially in the Gaza Strip, cannot be tolerated with it anymore, and that it is unacceptable to allow Israel to continue to target children, women, civilians, hospitals and others. He added that the policies of the displacement, repression and prevention of assistance are all policies, all of which are clear strategies to ensure that Gaza is made a place where the Palestinians cannot live, and aim to change the status quo, as it harms Israel’s long -term security, and eliminates peace opportunities. Ferrara pointed out that there is a tangible change in the political horizon internationally, and that the two -state solution has always been the political compass, and a priority of any Italian government, and this is agreed between all political spectrums in Italy. He stressed that Italy has never abandoned the Palestinian issue, as the Italian efforts are continuing at all levels, including participating in the reconstruction, supporting the Palestinian security services, and its pivotal role in the existence of real Palestinian sovereignty over its lands. As for the bilateral level, Ferrara pointed out that his government is ready to provide the necessary support for the Palestinian government by continuing joint projects and development cooperation between the two countries, stressing the readiness of his government to agree on new areas of cooperation between the two countries. In the same context, he welcomed the holding of the joint government committee between Palestine and Italy as soon as possible during this year, noting the need to intensify meetings and dialogue sessions between the two countries at all political levels. On the other hand, Ambassador Attia held several meetings and discussions on the sidelines of the political consultations session, which included a meeting with the Middle East Affairs Adviser to Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni, Roberto Statrati, in which the two parties discussed developments in the position of Meloni’s government and demands for Italy’s playing for an important and more central role in a two -state solution. Attia also met the Secretary of International Relations in the Italian Parliament, Bibi Profinzano, and a group of members of the Parliamentary Committee on Peace, which is chaired by Stephania Escari. These meetings also included an important discussion with the head of the Italian Parliament Foreign Relations Committee.
