Head of the Energy Department: The energy and water system in Abu Dhabi has turned into an advanced, flexible and sustainable sector

Abu Dhabi, May 27 / WAM / His Excellency Dr. Abdullah Hamid Al -Jarwan, Head of the Energy Department in Abu Dhabi, confirmed that the emirate is moving forward in the consolidation of its position as a global capital of low -emissions, as the percentage of the use of clean energy produced and locally consumed exceeded 46% in less than a decade. This came in his speech during the opening session of the “World Utilities Conference 2025”, which is hosted by the capital Abu Dhabi with the wide participation of governmental and private agencies and international institutions specialized in the energy and water sectors and its associated technologies.
His Excellency said: “In Abu Dhabi, energy and water are not just sectors, but rather a national necessity that goes beyond the measurement units to embody long -term development strategies, which were launched from the vision of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan,” may God rest his soul “and continue today with the directives of our rational leadership.”
He added that Abu Dhabi continues its commitment to building a future based on flexibility, prosperity and innovation, for the sake of future generations, the whole world and societies, pointing out that global electricity demand continues to grow by more than 2% annually, and it is expected that this rate will double in light of the rapid industrial and technology transformations, especially in the areas of electric vehicles and digital infrastructure.
He explained that the demand for water is expected to witness an increase of up to 30% by 2050, as a result of the factors of urban expansion, population growth and climate change, noting that energy and water have become two components in the national and economic competitiveness equation.
He stressed that Abu Dhabi is not satisfied with interacting with challenges, but rather leads the efforts to shift clearly, partnership and commitment, noting that the energy and water system in the emirate has turned into an advanced, flexible and sustainable sector, driven by innovation and integration between the relevant authorities.
His Excellency added that the value of the sector this year has exceeded hundreds of billions of dirhams, and it is funded by more than 40 billion dirhams annually, while the demand for electricity in Abu Dhabi is expected to double during the next ten years of the current level of 110 Taraws/hour, as well as a similar growth in the demand for water and central cooling.
He pointed out that meeting this growth is not limited to expanding productive capabilities, but rather requires a comprehensive redesign of how to plan, build, manage and consume, pointing to the holding of the first energy and water forum in Abu Dhabi a few months ago, which formed a central platform to accelerate the pace of comprehensive transformation.
He explained that the Energy Department has developed a joint strategy aimed at achieving four transformational axes that include: ensuring safe and reliable supplies, enhancing operational efficiency, maximizing economic value through artificial intelligence, and expanding strategic partnerships with leading global institutions. His Excellency announced the launch of a new strategic partnership with the “Prizeet” company, aimed at employing advanced technology and artificial intelligence in developing innovative solutions for the sectors of obstetric, transport, distribution, energy, cooling and water.
He said: “We are pleased to launch today one of the most prominent of these solutions under the name (AD.We) – Abu Dhabi Artificial Intelligence in the water and energy sectors, which represents a unified platform for decision -making through the integration of electricity, water, central cooling systems and petroleum products.”
He pointed out that the first stage of the new solution is expected to achieve more than 100 million dirhams of added value, with accelerating growth capabilities in the coming stages, stressing the importance of harnessing these innovations to improve operational efficiency and expect demand and enhance customer experience.
His Excellency stressed that Abu Dhabi continues in its leadership role at the global level through investment in the future, and achieving comprehensive and sustainable development that contributes to providing the national economy and enhancing the flexibility of vital sectors.
