A joint statement on cooperation between the UAE and Ireland in criminal justice matters

Abdullah bin Sultan Al -Nuaimi, the Minister of Justice, made a phone call to Jim Oakhan, the Minister of Justice in Ireland, on May 31, 2025, after the ruling issued by the Dubai Court of Cassation regarding the delivery of an Irish citizen accused of a murder and affiliation with a criminal organization.
The two ministers emphasized that the delivery process embodies the joint, fixed and continuous commitment to preserve the rule of law and enhance international cooperation, as well as the established relations between the UAE and Ireland, and continuous cooperation to achieve international justice, and on the keenness of the common sides to ensure the enforcement of justice.
The two ministers said: “This positive development is a sign of distinguished cooperation in the field of criminal justice between the governments of the UAE and Ireland, and it also highlights a joint commitment to holding accountable everyone who tries to escape justice.”
The two ministers also praised the efforts of the Dubai Police and the “Gharda Seuushna” (Irish National Police), and confirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation between the police services in the two countries, and praised the main role they play in combating the global threat to organized crime.
The two sides stressed the importance of preserving this cooperation and developing joint initiatives between the police forces in both countries, in a way that enhances security, establishes the rule of law, and supports the implementation of justice across the border.
It is noteworthy that the bilateral agreements regarding the delivery of criminals and the mutual legal assistance in criminal matters between the UAE and Ireland entered into force on May 18, 2025, after completing all the necessary legal procedures.
