Live update: An upcoming Security Council vote on a draft resolution on the ceasefire in Gaza

The draft resolution indicates the council’s demand to release immediately and without conditions and generously for all the hostages held by Hamas and other groups.
It is demanding immediate lifting and without conditions for all restrictions imposed on the entry of humanitarian aid to Gaza and distributing them safely and without obstacles on a large scale – including by the United Nations and the humanitarian partners – across the Gaza Strip.
The draft resolution also calls for the restoration of all basic services under international humanitarian law and the principles of humanitarian action represented in “humanity, neutrality, integrity and independence”, and with relevant Security Council resolutions.
The ten elected countries in the Security Council – which are elected to membership of the Council for two years – are Algeria, Pakistan, Panama, the Republic of Korea, Denmark, Slovenia, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Guaana, Greece.
The five constant membership of the Council, which has the right to veto (veto) is China, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, France, and Russia.
The text of the draft resolution expresses great concern about the catastrophic humanitarian situation, including the risk of starvation, as stated in the integrated stages of food security stages.
It stresses the need to comply with all parties with their obligations under international law. It is appreciated by the efforts of Egypt, Qatar and the United States of America related to the implementation of the ceasefire.
