The Ruler of Sharjah opens the Sharia Al Dhaid market

Today, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, opened Shariat Al Dhaid Market, located near Falaj Al Dhaid and Shariat Al Dhaid, and in a strategic location between Al Dhaid Fort and Al Mudarassah Tower.
His Highness toured the corridors of the market, whose location carries deep historical connotations, and in the past represented a major stop for caravans to rest and obtain water and food before continuing their journeys, and an important meeting point that contributed to the prosperity of commercial activity and linked Al Dhaid to its surroundings via ancient caravan routes.
During the tour, His Highness was briefed on the various stores that the market includes, and the various services they provide and the various products that the shop owners offer to the market’s visitors and residents of the region. It is considered a qualitative addition to the economic and social scene in the region. It contributes to stimulating the commercial and tourism movement, supports productive families and owners of small and youth projects, and provides a sustainable platform for marketing local products and traditional crafts.
During the tour, His Highness was introduced to the entrances to the market, which were designed to ensure ease of movement and integration of connection with its urban surroundings, as it includes four main entrances, the first of which overlooks the Al-Dhaid Wildlife Museum, while the second entrance leads to the back area of the market, and the third entrance faces Al-Dhaid Fort, while the fourth entrance is located towards Al-Madarsa Tower.
The market includes a designated track for camels located adjacent to the market, 8 meters wide and 450 meters long, to be used in camel competitions and camel grooming organized in the region.
The market also includes a gallery overlooking Sharia and Falaj Al Dhaid, designed to form a natural platform that allows visitors to enjoy the scenes of palm trees and flowing water, and to conjure the region’s past and the ancient traditional lifestyle.
Shariat Al Dhaid Market, which took into account the preservation of the heritage architectural style and the development of facilities to meet the needs of visitors and merchants, consists of a ground floor with a total area of 3,186 square metres, and includes 34 commercial shops ranging from restaurants and cafes, in addition to shops designated for the people of the region to display and sell their various local, household and heritage products, in addition to shops for international brands and two designated seating areas for visitors at the middle entrance to enjoy. The architectural style of the market, including an arch-shaped entrance and other woodwork, was chosen from the surrounding desert environment and local culture, in addition to the building materials available in the region, such as the Al-Arish residences made of palm leaves, which formed one of the most prominent features of traditional architecture in the Emirates, reflecting the building’s harmony with its natural surroundings.
The market provides 595 parking spaces, including designated parking for people with disabilities and parking for charging electric vehicles. As part of enhancing traffic safety and providing a safe and integrated environment for road users, both vehicles and pedestrians, roads exceeding 900 meters have been paved, a walkway 280 meters long and 1.5 meters wide, and safe crossing lanes for pedestrians exceeding 1.5 kilometers in length have been paved.
The market enhances the tourist attraction of Al Dhaid as a destination that combines history, heritage, and living economic experience, which reflects positively on family income, stimulates the local economy, and supports the sustainability of community projects in the region.
