The UAE confirms its commitment to protecting the oceans and enhancing their sustainability

Abu Dhabi, June 8 / WAM / His Excellency Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al -Dahhak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, affirmed the UAE’s commitment to protecting the oceans and its environmental system and enhancing its sustainability as a vital resource locally and globally.
On the occasion of the International Oceanic Day, she said that the oceans overwhelm more than 70% of the surface of the planet, and are considered an essential element in human life and ways of living, as they are the lifestyle of the planet; The climate organizes, provides food, embraces countless ecosystems, and however, facing unprecedented challenges; From the effects of climate change, which are manifested in coral reefs, and the high level of sea level, to the pressure resulting from unusual fishing practices, which endangers the safety of the oceans.
She added: “As a country that is closely related to the sea, we are aware of the size of these challenges and the need for urgent action to confront them, and we are committed to performing a pioneering role in finding appropriate solutions, putting our eyes on our responsibility to protect these precious resources for future generations, and therefore, we continue to work on implementing effective strategies to mitigate these threats, and restore our ecosystem wellness Navy.
She pointed out that the world celebrates the International Day of Oceans this year under the slogan “The splendor of the ocean; and preserving what helps us to survive”, a slogan that deeply is consistent with the UAE’s vision of a sustainable future, considering that it represents a reminder of the value of the seas and invaluable oceans, and an affirmation of the urgent need to protect it from pollution, overfishing, and the effects of climate change.
The Minister of Climate Change and Environment pointed out that the UAE has made from the concrete achievements in the field of protecting Crimea and rehabilitating coral reefs; As an ambitious project to rehabilitate coral reefs in Abu Dhabi is being implemented by cultivating more than 4 million coral colonies in the emirate’s waters by 2030, and working to plant 100 million crop trees in the UAE by the aforementioned year.
She emphasized the UAE international cooperation for ocean protection, and that the state’s commitment is not limited to territorial waters, but also exceeds it to a broader scope; It is the first country in the Middle East to join the “100%Alliance”, the initiative launched by the United Nations through the Supreme Committee for the Sustainable Ocean Economy, and calls for coastal countries to adhere to the sustainable management of all marine areas within its scope.
Dr. Al -Dahhak called on everyone on this day to carry out their responsibilities and hold a message of protection of the ocean, not to save any effort to enrich knowledge about sustainable seafood options, reduce the use of plastics, and support organizations that devote their efforts to protect the oceans, and instill the love of the seas and know their wonders in the hearts of children, noting that every step, no matter how simple it appears, creates a team, at work, at work, at work To restore the vitality of the oceans and maintain the “wonders of the ocean” for future generations.
