"Nuclear control" It organizes a national dialogue on the future of radiotherapy for cancer

Abu Dhabi June 18 / WAM / The Federal Nuclear Control Authority organized today the first activities of “a meeting with the supervisory authority” for the year 2025, under the title “Radiotherapy for Oncology: Between the Present and the Future” with the participation of experts from the health sector and the treatment of oncology with radiation to discuss the latest developments in this field.

Experts discussed the national and international regulatory frameworks related to the protection of radiation for patients and workers, and other technical aspects associated with them, and reviewed the techniques and procedures used for radiography in their institutions, stressing the importance of the role of this type of photography in the field of radiotherapy for cancer, as it is an essential tool in planning treatment while working to meet the needs of patients, as well as the importance of periodic reviews of the radiological standards used that which are used It contributes to improving the accuracy of clinical diagnosis, ensuring patient safety and adhering to national and international protocols.

Discussions touched on strategic solutions to face the current challenges in radiotherapy, including the need to unify evidence and supervisory guidelines in line with technical developments in this field, in addition to exploring ways to use artificial intelligence and digital tools in diagnosing and treating tumors.

The attendees stressed the importance of developing capacity building programs to keep pace with the future needs of medical cadres, enhance cooperation in the fields of research and development, as well as the establishment of a specialized work team under the umbrella of the Radiation Protection Committee to coordinate with local health authorities, and to facilitate technical review operations of the supervisory frameworks.

Aida Al -Shehhi, Director of Radiological Security Department at the Authority, pointed to work in enhancing cooperation between regulatory authorities and health care providers, to ensure the highest standards of radiological safety, as this event provided an important platform for exchanging experiences, unifying best practices, and exploring innovations that will contribute to developing the future of radiotherapy in the UAE.

Al -Shehhi pointed out that this event is part of the shared responsibility in protecting patients and workers, and ensuring safe and effective use of modern technologies.

The authority presented its efforts to support and develop the system of radiation protection in the UAE, through its effective partnerships with prominent international organizations such as the International Atomic Energy Agency and the International Commission for Radiation Protection, in addition to the establishment of the National Radiation Protection Committee in 2011, which is chaired by the authority and plays a consultative role for the government in all matters related to radiation protection.

These efforts come within the commitment of the authority to support the aspirations of the UAE to be at the forefront of innovation in the field of health care, and to enhance its position as a leading center for medical tourism, in line with the axis of “the most prosperous world society” within the vision of “We Emirates 2031”, which aims to provide high -quality health care for all members of society.

In October 2025, the authority will host the eighth session of the International Symposium on Radiation Protection Systems, which is organized by the International Commission for Radiation Protection, and this event will be an international platform for exchanging knowledge and experiences, and promoting international cooperation in the field of radiological protection.
