Sharjah Heritage celebrates"World Heritage Day"

Sharjah, April 16 / WAM / The Sharjah Institute for Heritage celebrated, today, at its headquarters, the occasion of “World Heritage Day”.
The celebration activities witnessed a remarkable attendance from those interested in heritage and cultural affairs.
Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Musallam, President of the Institute, said that celebrating World Heritage Day represents an important milestone for enhancing awareness of cultural heritage as the memory of nations, the essence of their identity, and a common human heritage that requires concerted international efforts to preserve and protect it.
He pointed out the continuation of the institute’s programs and events, such as “Sharjah Heritage Days,” “Al-Rawi Program,” and “Heritage Nights,” in addition to its national and religious participations in a way that strengthens society’s connection to its cultural roots. He stressed that the institute strengthens its presence locally and internationally through its activities, initiatives, scientific publications, and building academic partnerships with institutions inside and outside the country, thus consolidating Sharjah’s position as a global center for culture and heritage.
Abu Bakr Al-Kindi, Director of the Institute, confirmed that the Institute celebrates this global occasion, which falls on the eighteenth of April every year, pointing out that this celebration embodies the Institute’s interest in preserving the cultural heritage, preserving the national identity, and enhancing its presence in society. He explained that the selection of the “kohl” item included in the UNESCO lists came to be the focus of this year’s event due to its profound heritage and aesthetic connotations, pointing out that the program included live workshops that reviewed the methods of preparing traditional kohl and its stages in a way that reflects the richness of this heritage. And its originality.
Marwa Al-Mazmi, responsible for external and internal activities at the institute, explained that the event witnessed the participation of craftswomen who gave live demonstrations of kohl making and methods of using it.
