The US Vice President stresses the necessity of the National Guard in Los Angeles

US Vice President, Jay de Vans, confirmed yesterday that thousands of soldiers who were deployed in Los Angeles this month are still necessary, despite a relatively quiet week.

The US President, Donald Trump, ordered the deployment of about 4000 members of the National Guard and 700 from the navy under the pretext of protecting government employees and federal buildings, following protests in the city due to a wave of arrests of irregular migrants.

“The soldiers and the naval elements are unfortunately very necessary in light of what is happening, as it is afraid to intensify the situation,” Vans told reporters in Los Angeles.

It made these statements a day after a federal appeal court confirmed that Trump’s decision to send the National Guard to Los Angeles, although the governor of California state was not approved.

The state officials criticized Trump for his deployment of the military, given that his steps led to an intensification of protests, and local law enforcement could have contained it.

The deployment of the National Guard without the approval of the governor of the state concerned, which also has authority over this reserve military entity, is a precedent in the United States since 1965.

A wave of arrests of irregular migrants at the hands of the federal police concerned with immigration affairs (Ice) has sparked protests, sometimes violent in Los Angeles, the second largest American city and the stronghold of Democrats. The protests expanded to other cities, such as San Francisco, New York and Chicago.

These developments, Trump, which made the fight against irregular migration one of the main axes of his internal policy, prompted the National Guard to be sent to contain a situation that was considered outside the control of the democratic authorities in the state.

“If you leave rioters, they eliminate great American cities, it is natural that federal elements to enforce the law to protect the citizens who were elected to protect them,”

Vans, the governor of California, accused Gavin Newmasin, who was likely to be nominated by the Democratic Party for the 2028 presidential elections, and the mayor of Los Angeles, Karen Bass, was accused of encouraging protesters.

Neusx and Bass have dedicated the acts of violence and sabotage that have marred the protests, and targeted law enforcement elements, but they accused the Trump administration of making a crisis in Los Angeles.

Bass responded, during a media briefing, on Friday, accusing him of lying.

“How do you dare say that the city’s officials encourage violence?” Said Bass. We have preserved the ladder. And you know that the federal officials who were here protected a federal building. They did not control the crowds. ”

Vans was accused of “provocation” and planted “discord”, noting that the acts of sabotage at its climax were the “a few hundred people who were not necessarily related to peaceful demonstrations.”
