Trump is seeking to recognize the doubtful “Lumbe” tribe

For nearly a century and a half, the US federal government refused to recognize the “Lombi” tribe, the largest tribe of the Mississippi River, and now a number of leaders in Washington are seeking to give it this recognition, and President Donald Trump said, while signing a memorandum asking the Minister of the Interior to present a plan, to help the Lombi tribe in obtaining the full federal recognition: “I love the Lombby tribe.”
The main reason behind not recognizing them as original Indian tribes is due to the mysterious history of the tribe, as there is no record that “Lomby” spoke any language other than English.
One of the correspondents of the “Economist”, who was his great grandmother from the Lombi tribe, learned that this is due to the fact that the tribe was one of the remains of the “Sir and Walter Rally Rally”.
Trump was not the only president to show his love for the Lombi tribe for electoral and political reasons. Last October, during his campaign to support the democratic candidate, Kamala Harris, in her election campaign in North Carolina, former President Bill Clinton visited the city of Bimberk, the headquarters of the tribal government.
Donald Trump was also close to her, as he set up a rally gathering with banners bearing the phrase “Lombi for Trump”, and during the campaign, both presidential candidates called the President of the Lombi tribe, John Laurie, to pledge to him with the full federal recognition, and last year also the House of Representatives passed the law of fairness “Lombi”, which would give the tribe recognition, by a majority of 311 votes. 96 votes, but he stumbled in the Senate.
The people of “Lumbe” used to live in this federal void for more than half a century. In 1956, President Dwight Eisenhower signed “Lombi Law”, a measure to recognize the tribe as American Sagers, while we excluded them from federal funds and other privileges that most tribes enjoy.
Given the lack of fully recognition, the “Lombe” people are still unable to obtain the Indian Federal Health Care, the placing of lands in a protesting box that resembles reserves, or building a casino.
What increased the complexity of the issue of their origins is that the people of “Lumbe” faced difficulty in agreeing on their name, as strangers called him names such as: Siwan Indians, Tuscarra, Croatan and Cherokee from Robson County, and most of them did not settle on the name “Lombi” except in 1953. A member of the Lombi tribe, a professor at the University of Richmond, David Wilkins: Naming disturbs us. ”
Today, the other Indians are the biggest skeptical of recognition of “Lombi”. Last October, the National Congress of the American Indians was forced to apologize when participants were found to distribute cards that warn that recognition of “Lumbe” would expose the position of other tribes to danger, and described the “British Watch”, which has stipulated itself as an officer on those who pretend to be Indians, the people of Lombi as a tribe Funny. ”
The eastern Sheroki tribe became the only recognized in North Carolina, the president of the Lombi tribe, as it has been claiming that it is not the indigenous population, and last January, the head of the Eastern Cherokee tribe, Michelle Hicks, said: “(Lumbe) did not meet the necessary criteria to prove its claim that it is a legal original nation, and depends on the sympathy of the legislators to obtain federal recognition.”
His attacks sparked a response from the Indian Affairs Committee in the state, as his allegations were described as “shameful, and useless”, and “unfounded, and have been refuted on many occasions”, and this competition dates back to decades ago.
Despite the expiration of the 90 -day deadline for Trump’s plan to help the Lombi tribe, the Ministry of Interior has not yet issued its report, and the deputies have re -submitted a “Lombi Law” for fairness, but over the past 130 years, 29 bills have been submitted in Congress, eight of which were approved by the House of Representatives, but they failed in the Senate. About “Economist”
• Although the House of Representatives passed the “Lombi” law, which would give the tribe recognition, it stumbled in the Senate.
