Sharjah Arts Foundation announces the 17th Sharjah Biennials
Sharjah, June 24 / WAM / The Sharjah Art Foundation announced the selection of Angela Harotionian and Bala Nasimto two values for the seventeenth session of the Sharjah Biennial, which is scheduled to start in January 2027.
Angela Harotionian is a professor of contemporary art and art theory at the University of Berlin Arts, while Paula Nassimanto works as an independent architect and values in Luanda and through their cooperation, the two values will contribute to the formulation of an artistic vision that reflects the spirit of Sharjah Biennial as an space for critical thinking and creative experimentation, and exploring contemporary technical capabilities within a wide range of practices and projects.
Her Excellency Sheikha Hor bint Sultan Al Qasimi, President of the Sharjah Arts Foundation, stressed that the Sharjah Biennial, since 2003, has become a firm platform for cultural and creative exchange, combining artistic traditions and contemporary trends, and allows for cooperation between artists and evaluation from all over the world.
Her Excellency said that Angela Harotionian and Bala Nassimanto have a distinct artistic vision, stemming from their multiple experiences and research and artistic practices that have evolved in various cultural contexts, which will add a participatory and open character to the next version of the Biennial.
For its part, Paula Nasimto explained that the Biennial is an opportunity to experiment with new show patterns that reflect social and environmental transformations, noting that it is interested in exploring ties between arts and infrastructure, and the ability of art to create new spaces for human relations.
Angela Harotionian expressed her aspiration to shed light on the various time rhythms that inhabited contemporary experiences, reviewing the aesthetic and political dimensions of artwork, and linking them to the concepts of modernity and liberation in the post -capitalist contexts.
