An important step towards peace, the United Nations welcomes the peace agreement between the Democratic Congo and Rwanda

In a statement attributed to his spokesman, Guterres said that this agreement represents an important step towards reducing escalation and bringing peace and stability in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Great Lakes region.

He praised the role of the US leader in facilitating this process, in coordination with the State of Qatar and the African Union mediator, for Ghannasingbe, President of Togo State. The Secretary -General also praised the five participating facial contributions appointed by the East Africa Group and the Southern African Development Group.

He urged the parties to fulfill the full obligations that it pledged in the peace agreement, and in work Security Council Resolution 2773 (2025)Including stopping hostilities and all other agreed measures.

He stressed that the United Nations, including through the United Nations Mission to Stabilize in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (Monusco), is fully committed to supporting the implementation of the agreement, in close coordination with the African Union and regional and international partners.
