Family Welfare Authority .. A pioneering model in providing community support and sustainability of recovery

Abu Dhabi, June 29 / WAM / The Family Welfare Authority in Abu Dhabi is a pioneering model in societal support and the sustainability of recovery, as it seeks to empower families and enhance societal cohesion through a comprehensive set of specialized programs and services, including subsequent care for addiction recovery.

The authority embodies a comprehensive vision in family and social empowerment, as its services are not limited to therapeutic intervention only, but also extend to ensuring the sustainability of results and enhancing the concept of societal protection, in the context of its keenness to integrate the roles between the family, the authority, and society.

On the most important care services provided by the authority, His Excellency Salama Al -Amimi, Director General of the Family Welfare Authority, said in a statement to the Emirates News Agency “WAM” that psychological and social rehabilitation programs play a fundamental role in consolidating the stability of those who recover after addiction treatment, as the authority provides an integrated model that combines therapeutic, psychological, and social support. “Midr -Road houses” where the recovery lives in a semi -independent therapeutic environment that helps him gradually move from the treatment center to his normal life.

She added in this context and then comes the new stage launched by the authority, which is the “subsequent sponsorship service” that lasts for a whole year, and includes sessions for individual and group psychotherapy, family psychological support sessions, and periodic examinations, noting that these programs enhance the trust of the recovery himself, and work to rebuild communication skills and deal with daily pressure, in addition to developing self -awareness and behavioral discipline, which reduces the possibility of relapse, It increases the chances of successful integration in society, and activities are varied within programs to include exercise, art treatment, and mental meditation, which contributes to the integration of mental and behavioral health.

She pointed out that one of the most prominent challenges that appear during the follow -up phase after treatment is difficult to re -adapt in the vicinity of the family and society, especially in light of the presence of a social stigma towards addiction, and some families may suffer from the lack of acceptance of the recovered person due to previous experiences or a fear of relapse, which may affect the stability of the recovery psychologically and make it vulnerable to isolation.

She added, “Also, some recovered people lack social support, so the” subsequent sponsorship “service came through which the authority seeks to support the recovered within their families through psychological and family rehabilitation programs, field visits, and the provision of a supportive transitional environment that allows gradual return to normal life.

Al -Amimi said that follow -up efforts include integrated psychological support programs at the individual and family levels, as the authority provides psychological counseling sessions for individuals to help them deal with life pressures after treatment, in addition to awareness and educational sessions for families. The practical experience has shown that families’ response to these programs is encouraging, especially when there is a safe awareness environment that encourages the family to engage in the process of recovery.

She pointed out that the cases of relapse are incoming and one of the most prominent causes is the lack of sufficient family support, or exposure to sudden psychological or social pressure, or a return to a previous environment that stimulates abuse, or the absence of regular treatment follow -up after leaving the treatment center, indicating that the authority is working to reduce these cases by providing long -term follow -up programs, continuous psychological support services, plans to re -integrate societal and the authority also works on Facilitating societal reintegration through cooperation with work and education authorities to provide appropriate professional and educational opportunities.

He said that the authority seeks to address the challenges through awareness and educational campaigns aimed at changing the stereotype of addiction and includes the steps for re -merger, vocational training programs, life skills courses, and continuous follow -up with the beneficiaries to direct them towards educational or functional opportunities that are appropriate to their capabilities and interests, as well as coordination with partners from the governmental and private sectors to provide training opportunities or work, and ensure the existence of an environment Supporting the recovery.

It is noteworthy that the Family Welfare Authority, one of the agencies affiliated with the Community Development Department, aims to contribute to the governance and organization of the social sector in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, and to help society to form independent and stable families, by providing integrated services to families and their members and managing their cases in cooperation with their strategic partners.

The Family Welfare Association has been expanded in accordance with the decision of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi No. 9 of 2024, by including the competencies of shelter and humanitarian care services, and the rehabilitation and enabling programs for victims of violence and human trafficking.
