Vienna on July 1/ WAM/ The unemployment rate in Austria increased by 0.6% to 6.8% during last June, on a monthly basis, reaching the number of unemployed individuals registered in training programs, at Austria’s work offices, 364,419 people.
The latest official data, issued today by the Austrian Agency Department, showed the continued increase in the unemployment rate in June, which witnessed a significant increase in the number of unemployed, amounting to 9.3%, representing about 24,500 people, compared to the same month last year 2024.
The Austrian capital, Vienna, recorded the highest unemployment rate, at the level of all the nine states of Austria, at a rate of 11.4%, and Vienna state topped the list of the most unemployment states, with a large difference from the state of “Borgesland”, which came in second place with 6.1%.
Corina Shoman, Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, said that these developments emphasize the need to take effective political measures in the labor market to achieve stability.
Johannes Copef, head of the Labor Office Department, explained that although signs of economic recovery appear on the horizon, unemployment is still significantly rising in Austria since April 2023.
Analysts believe that the economic slowdown for two years in Austria still casts a shadow of job opportunities and negatively affects the number of vacancies available in the market.
Official figures showed that the number of vacancies decreased last June by 13.8% to 84.357 jobs, compared to the same month last year 2024.
