Because of the escalation of violence, a European country prohibits fireworks on New Year’s Eve

The Netherlands decided to ban fireworks on New Year’s Eve, as individuals will not be allowed to be launched from the end of 2026 and the beginning of 2027.
The Senate, or what is known as the first room of Parliament, voted by a large majority in favor of the ban on Tuesday in The Hague, after the House of Representatives, or the second chamber, had already approved it.
The government explained that the next New Year’s Eve will be the last in which Dutch citizens are allowed to ignite fireworks, as it is not possible to apply the ban this year for administrative reasons.
The reason for the ban is due to the escalation of violence during New Year’s celebrations.
In recent years, police, fire and ambulances have been subjected to frequent attacks using fireworks.
The heavy explosives used also resulted in injuries and even deaths in some cases, as well as deliberate fires in several places.
The ban has sparked widespread controversy in the Netherlands for years, with several parties, including doctors, police, municipalities, environmental protection groups and animals, but there was no parliamentary majority that supports this until recently.
