To detain migrants … Trump opens the “crocodile prison” in Florida

Yesterday, US President Donald Trump opened the controversial detention center known as “Alegre Alacatraz” in Florida, in a move described as an unprecedented escalation in the policy of dealing with immigrants.
The opening came amid a wave of popular and legal anger, part of which was translated into protests demanding Trump’s departure, as the project protesters considered a violation of the environment on the one hand, and human rights on the other hand.
The detention center, which took only 8 days, is located in the heart of a remote environmental reserve in a very hot spot, inside the “Everglades” area of Florida. The first of its kind is specially designed to detention thousands of migrants, who the United States intends to deport, with this week to start receiving the first batches of migrants.
In his speech during the opening, Trump hinted that “Alegor Alacatraz” might be the first model for a chain of similar detention centers in other states, with the aim of “the mass detention of migrants in preparation for their deportation outside the country,” saying: “This is just the beginning.”
The facility was equipped to accommodate up to 5,000 immigrants, and it was described as “it appears to be one of the worst prisons in America”, and sparked widespread criticism from human rights and environmental organizations, especially with the absence of any environmental evaluation or community consultation before the implementation of the project, which was implemented in a hurry, by welcoming the Minister of Internal Security, Christie Naim, and the governor of Florida, Ron Desantis.
The “Alegitor Alacatraz” is a compound name, meaning “Alegitor” crocodile, and “Alacatraz” is the name of a very guarded federal detention center, built on a rock island in the heart of San Francisco Bay, California. This prison, which has been closed since 1963, gained a reputation that it cannot be escaped, as sharks are surrounded by all sides.
The new migrant detention center in Florida shares with Alcatraz that the latter is surrounded by snakes and crocodiles, and there is no room to escape from it, according to officials’ statements.
Two weeks ago, the Public Prosecutor, James Othmayer, announced for the first time the “Al -Tamsatraz” prison, a video clip on social media showing the sounds of crocodiles and rock music to emphasize the horrific nature of the facility.
“If people go out, only crocodiles and snakes will wait for them, there is no place to go to, there is no place to hide.”
For his part, the American president is proud that the “Alkatraz” may be in the quality of the real location of Alcatraz, saying: “It is also a frightening location, right? It is a difficult site.”
And indicating that the only exit road will be a flight that transported the immigrant outside the United States, said Caroline Levitt, a White House spokeswoman, said last Monday, “There is only one road that leads to here, and the only way out is a flight in one direction, it is an isolated and surrounded area of a dangerous wildlife in a rugged area,” said White House spokeswoman, on Monday, said last Monday.
“It is an effective and low -cost method to help implement the largest mass deportation campaign in the history of the United States,” Levitte added.
