Leaking sensitive medical information about Shakira .. What is the story?
The accident dates back to last February, when Shakira, 48, was forced to cancel a huge party that was scheduled in the capital, Lima, after it was urgently transferred to the hospital due to a health problem in the abdomen, whose details were not revealed at the time.
Despite the attempts of the hospital administration to confirm its health condition, its personal medical report leaked to social media days after she entered the hospital, which sparked widespread anger among its fans, and prompted the Peruvian authorities to open an official investigation into the incident.
According to the laws in force in Peru, the detection of private health information is a serious violation of the basic rights of patients, which necessitated the signing of the large fine on the violating clinic, according to local media.
The authorities indicated that the relevant clinic, “Deljado Una” in the capital, Lima, violated the rules for dealing with the personal data of patients, and did not abide by the regulations that guarantee the protection of the privacy of medical information.
The clinic had issued a previous statement in which it approved a “grave violation”, confirming the opening of an internal investigation to punish those involved in the incident, and to take disciplinary measures against the employees responsible for the leak, in an attempt to reduce the repercussions of the crisis and restore confidence.
Despite the health crisis and the media outlet, Shakira succeeded in resuming her global artistic tour after just two days of the incident, as she returned to the theater in Lima, reassuring her fans for her health status, and confirmed the continuation of her tour, titled “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloraan” (Women is not crying anymore), which is her first global tour in seven years.
