Gaza is starving: distress calls in the midst of the scarcity of aid

In the Gaza Strip, the United Nations says that the last means of life in the Strip collapses day by day, millions of civilians are being held in a narrow space, struggling with hunger, disease and frequent displacement. Through the lens of our correspondent in Gaza, scenes of the harsh suffering that ravaged roads and hospitals are manifested.

Have mercy on our children

“Is this to be edible? I collected it from the ground to feed her children. Have mercy on us! Have mercy on our children. Look at us with mercy.” These words mixed with oppression, were launched by a Palestinian woman who was affected by the condition of her companion, who was forced to capture food residue from the ground after the running out of the community cuisine in one of the indiscriminate camps in Gaza.

Although she did not get her share of the only daily lentil meal, her cry did not receive a response, in light of the inability to provide continuous and reliable humanitarian assistance. Under the incendiary sun, hundreds of women – women, men and children – are eager to barely block their breath. As food arrives, waiting turns into a feverish conflict, as the hungry scrambles to get their share, fearing that they will not return with empty vessels.

In light of this harsh reality, the limited societal kitchens have become the only resort for many families, as they provide them with one meal daily, mostly from lentils, in a desperate attempt to fill the hunger.

Gaza children are waiting for incendiary sunlight with the patience of food aid, their faces reflect fatigue, ability to withstand and silent hope for a better tomorrow.

A sharp malnutrition vortex

The United Nations News reporter visited Al -Rantisi Specialist Hospital for Children in Gaza, where he saw the arrival of dozens of families with their children with wasting and malnutrition. The doctor, Ragheb and Sharaba, described the majestic situation in the hospital, who said that he received daily “severe cases” that require internal treatment. He said: “The problem is that the mothers themselves suffer from malnutrition, which leads to a lack of milk and malnutrition in children, sometimes to the point of death due to infections and weak immunity.”

We see our children die and we have nothing

The mother of the child, Sham, stood, alongside her baby’s bed, was powerless. It does not eat enough food to generate milk to breastfeed, and there is no baby milk in the sector to save it. She explained her tragedy to our correspondent by saying: “There is no milk, and I cannot breastfeed it naturally. Its health is deteriorating. We hope that food, milk and diapers will be inserted to children. We see our children die and we have nothing.”

As for the mother of the child Hossam Al -Termasi, she said that the conditions of her family deteriorated due to the war, and often find nothing to feed her child. She added: “It is a famine. I cannot meet the needs of my child. We were hospitalized on Friday, and since then my son has lived on medical solutions, and he cannot walk.”

One of the parents in Al -Rantisi Hospital said that his twin children also suffer from severe malnutrition, and added: “We do not find milk for them, and we do not know how to act.”

A child with severe malnutrition is lying in Abdulaziz Al -Rantisi Hospital in the Gaza Strip.

Empty markets

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) indicated that “The residents looking for food risk their lives” Just to get a summit they block their gambling, while desperate crowds are subjected to fire daily by the Israeli forces. Meanwhile, the markets in Gaza City seemed almost free of food, with a significant increase in the prices of the few goods available.

Our correspondent spoke with Nour Subuh, who is displaced from the town of Beit Lahia, who said he has been looking for flour since the morning and did not find what he could buy. He said: “The famine ravaged our children, they sleep without food. I went out in the morning in search of bread, and my wife is now in hospital. I have been searching for hours for food and I did not find it. High prices exceed our ability, so the flour has reached about 200 shekels, and we are without income. What we suffer from today is hunger, and our children sleep hungry.”

As for Ibrahim Abu Nima, a local population, he confirmed that Gaza entered The “maximum famine stage”, He added: “I went out of the house to bring food, but I did not find anything. I cannot buy the eggplant, which reached 30 shekels, and I am not able to buy the flour that reached the price of one kilo about 160 shekels. I need every day a kilo of flour to eat my children only bread. What do I have today?

Bassam Dawood called on the world to pressure Israel to enter aid, and he said: “Closing the crossings is the reason for our suffering from hunger. We have elderly children and elders. We, as men, can bear, but children cannot endure. We appeal to the whole world to save our children.”

The OCHA office warned that the collective deprivation of the population in the Gaza Strip has become a natural matter, indicating that every day it brings more preventive deaths, displacement, and despair. She emphasized that the arrival of humanitarian aid without obstacles to Gaza “Legal and moral commitment”, Calling to facilitate the entry of immediate relief to civilians.
