One in 5 children in Gaza suffers from malnutrition

UNRWA, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees, said that a child out of every 5 children in Gaza is suffering from malnutrition, with increasing cases day after day.

Philip Lazarini, UNRWA Commissioner -General, said on Thursday that most of the children received by the international agency teams suffer from wasting and weakness, and they are highly at risk of death if they do not get the treatment they need urgently, pointing to the death of more than a hundred people, the vast majority of children.

He explained that parents suffer from extreme hunger that they cannot care for their children, and those who reach UNRWA clinics do not have energy, food or means to follow medical advice, in light of the worsening crisis in Gaza that affects everyone, including health workers in the war -torn sector.

Lazarini called for allowing humanitarian workers to provide assistance in an unrestricted and without interruption to Gaza and its people, indicating that “UNRWA” has the equivalent of six thousand trucks loaded with food and medical supplies in Jordan and Egypt, waiting to be allowed to enter the sector.
