Under the chairmanship

Today, Monday at the United Nations headquarters in New York, the work of the high -level international conference to settle the question of Palestine with peaceful means and the implementation of a two -state solution under a joint presidency between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and France.

The conference aims to reaffirm international support for a two -state solution, planning and coordinating its implementation, in addition to helping to end the occupation and embody the establishment of the independent and sovereign state of Palestine and lives in peace and security.

In his opening speech, Antonio Guterres, the Secretary -General of the United Nations, sent a strongly worded warning, stressing that the two -state solution, which he described as the only trusted path of peace, has reached the “collapse point” and became “beyond ever.”

Guterres called for the conference to be a “decisive turning point” and a rare opportunity to achieve irreversible progress, and not just “another exercise in the goodwill.”

The Secretary -General stressed that the two -state solution is the only framework based on international law, which provides for two states living side by side on the basis of pre -1967 lines and Jerusalem as their capital, noting that the continuation of the conflict is not inevitable and its solution is possible if the “political will and courageous leadership” is available.

Guterres highlighted the tragic conditions, denouncing the “starvation of the population” and “comprehensive destruction” in Gaza, and demanded the cessation of unilateral measures.

He clearly emphasized that the creeping annexation of the occupied West Bank is illegal and must stop, describing these events as part of a systematic reality that works to dismantle the blocks of peace in the Middle East.

It is noteworthy that the conference continues for two days with the participation of more than 120 officials and delegates, and includes three discussion sessions dealing with issues, including humanitarian aid and reconstruction.
