Rwandi Congolese agreement on economic integration to establish peace

Washington on August 2 / WAM / Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo reached an agreement on the basic principles of a regional economic integration framework between the two countries, in a prominent step within the peace agreement concluded between them.

According to a statement issued by the US State Department, the agreed framework includes cooperation in vital areas, most notably energy, infrastructure, metal supply chains, in addition to the Department of Joint National Parks and Public Health.

This framework is to be officially launched within 90 days, after a period of consultations with the private sector and civil society to put the final touches on it.

This announcement comes after a meeting of the joint supervision committee between the two countries, held in the presence of observers from the United States, Qatar, Togo and the African Union.

Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo signed a peace agreement in Washington on June 27 to end a fight that killed thousands.
