243 million dollars fine on Tesla in America due to a fatal accident

A jury in the US state of Florida issued a ruling to fined the Tesla company $ 243 million, against the backdrop of a fatal collision in 2019, in which a “Model S” car equipped with a self -driving system was involved.

Reuters reported that the ruling, issued by a federal court in Miami, is one of the rare judgments that hold the legal responsibility for incidents related to the technology of self -driving, and may encourage more lawsuits against the company owned by the entrepreneur Illon Musk.

According to the details of the case, the jury granted the heirs of the victim, Nileb Benefides Leon, in addition to her former boyfriend, Delon Angelo, $ 129 million as compensation for damage, along with $ 200 million as punitive compensation. The court held the Tesla Company responsible for 33% of the total damage compensation, equivalent to about 42.6 million dollars, while the driver, George McGy, held a responsibility of 67%, knowing that he was not on the list of the defendants.

This development comes at a time when Tesla seeks to expand its dependence on self -driving technology, as it recently announced plans to launch self -driving taxis based on an advanced version of the driver aid program.

Tesla’s arrow was negatively affected by the ruling, as it declined by 1.8% on Friday, bringing its total losses since the beginning of the year to about 25%.
