Forest fires continue in Türkiye and Spain

Fire teams struggled with multiple forest fires throughout Turkey yesterday, with a major fire continued in the “Janqa Qalaa” region, in the northwest of the country, raging for the second consecutive day, after the evacuation of hundreds of residents as a precautionary measure.
The Airport of “Jannak Qalaa” and the “Strait of the Dardaneli”, which connects the “Sea of Aegean” to the “Sea of Marmara”, was temporarily closed due to forest fires, the day before yesterday.
The Minister of Agriculture and Forests, Ibrahim Yaqli, said in a post on the “X” social media platform, that the forest fires in the “Izini” and “Evajik” regions in “Janqa Qalaa” were largely controlled, but the fires in the city center in the southern part of the Dardanelle Strait are still raging.
Shieeli added that other forest fires in Edirne in the north of the country and “Hatay” in the south were fully controlled, while efforts to combat another forest fire in Manisa in the west.
For his part, the governor of “Jannq Qalaa”, Omar Turaman, said in a post on “X” that helicopters dealt with the fire yesterday, stressing that there is no direct danger to residential areas.
In the context of the fires, the Spanish local authorities said yesterday that the firefighters took control of a forest fire near the capital Madrid in the “Tres Cantos” area, killing a person and evacuating 180 people.
The Madrid region said in a statement that the favorable conditions during the night allowed the fire to contain.
For its part, emergency services stated, late, that a man suffered 98% burns of his body and was transferred by a helicopter to Lapaz Hospital, but he died later, after a fire that came to more than 2000 acres.
The Meteorological Authority said that the free wave in Spain is continuing, as it is expected that temperatures will reach 44 degrees Celsius in some areas.
Scientists say that the hottest and dry summer in the area overlooking the Mediterranean ends at a great risk of forest fires.
