"Cyber security" It emphasizes the importance of the periodic update of the devices used in digital systems

Abu Dhabi, August 31 / WAM / The Cyber Security Council called for the UAE government, users of digital programs and systems in the country, to update a group of basic devices, especially smartphones, mobile computer devices, browsers and routers, in addition to smart home devices, pointing out that these electronic devices are the most vulnerable to targeting by pirates and fraudsters, especially in open networks.

The council said in a statement to the Emirates News Agency “WAM”, that electronic threats are constantly evolving, which makes the old systems an ideal environment for malicious software, data theft and network penetration, which highlights the importance of activating automatic updates in various digital devices to provide continuous protection and avoid newly discovered security gaps.

He warned that the failure to update these devices puts the user in front of several possible risks, most notably the malware and stealing sensitive data in addition to penetrating internal networks.

Experts advise, to reduce these risks, to follow simple but effective steps that include operating automatic updates, examining update settings in all devices, maintaining continuous protection, ensuring that updates are installed periodically, verify privacy settings and monitor any unusual behavior in the devices.

The Council emphasized that the optimal solution to enhance cybersecurity is to persevere in the modernization of software due to the fact that most of the attacks depend on the exploitation of pre -monitored gaps and it could be avoided with a slight update, considering that updates are not just technical improvements, but rather digital protection shields that protect systems from threats.

The UAE continues its continuous efforts to build a safe cyber space that protects users from growing digital risks and keeps pace with rapid technical developments within a comprehensive national vision to enhance confidence in the state’s digital system, enhance the culture of cybersecurity and raise awareness of the importance of safe browsing.

It is worth noting that the Cyber Security Council launched a weekly awareness campaign within the Cyber Pulse Initiative; Where the third week of the campaign this year carries the slogan “Neglecting updates means higher cyber risks/ numbers warning”, with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of updating digital programs and systems and providing instructions for how to face various cyber threats.

The campaign targets individuals and institutions alike to increase cyber awareness and enhance cybersecurity and culture.

The ignorance of the periodic updates of digital programs and systems is a great threat to information security, as the numbers indicate the discovery of more than 30,000 new gaps worldwide during the year 2024 and the increasing security gaps and network breakings around the world. Statistics showed that 70% of the unique systems are highly vulnerable to cyber attacks if they were not updated periodically.
