20 Arab countries participate in the scientific meeting of the Encyclopedia of Traditional Architecture in Sharjah

Sharjah, September 3 / WAM / The Sharjah Institute of Heritage was launched today, the coordination meeting of the heads of the scientific teams of the traditional architecture in the Arab world, which lasts for two days with the participation of a group of experts and academics from more than 20 Arab countries from the ocean to the Gulf, including the Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Jordan, Palestine, Iraq, Mauritania, Sudan and others.

The meeting was chaired by His Excellency Dr. Abdulaziz Al -Muslim, President of the Sharjah Institute of Heritage, Chairman of the Supreme Scientific Committee for the Encyclopedia, with the participation of Dr. Zainab Kunduz Gharb, coordinator of the encyclopedia and Abu Bakr Al -Kindi, Director of the Institute.

The meeting agenda included in its first day the introduction of the encyclopedia, its contents, work mechanisms and the time horizon of completion, in addition to reviewing the current stage of the encyclopedia and launching the first volume of it, which deals with the systematic and descriptive entrance and the discussion of experts for the current challenges and the most effective ways to overcome and overcome them.

His Excellency Dr. Abdulaziz Al -Muslim said that the meeting is an essential step in the march of joint Arab action, as the Encyclopedia of Traditional Architecture in the Arab World represents one of the leading Arab projects adopted by the institute and which seeks to preserve the urban heritage and preserve the memory of the place.

He added that the convening of this meeting with the participation of a group of experts and specialists reflects our keenness to enhance scientific cooperation in the field of urban heritage and highlight the role of Sharjah as an incubator for culture and knowledge and a platform for the preservation of Arab identity, praising the valuable scientific efforts made by the scientific committee and research teams formed by researchers and academics from the Arab world.

For his part, Abu Bakr Al -Kindi stressed that the coordination meeting of the traditional architecture in the Arab world reflects Sharjah’s position as a scientific and cultural center and contributes to documenting joint research efforts and enhances the role of experts in highlighting the urban identity of the Arab nation.

The meeting will be witnessed tomorrow, three discussion sessions that deal with the first manifestations of traditional architecture in the UAE and the Arabian Gulf, and the second session reviews the urban heritage in the countries of the Arab Mashreq, while the third session discusses the patterns of traditional architecture in North Africa.

It is noteworthy that the Encyclopedia of Traditional Architecture in the Arab World is a memory for preserving the Arab urban heritage, and it is an initiative of the Sharjah Institute of Heritage to document the Arab architectural heritage and preserve its terms, vocabulary, elements and components of loss and extinction at a time when the memory of the past began to discuss in a number of countries in the world.
