UNIFIL: Israeli raids on southern Lebanon violate the Security Council Resolution 1701

Units of peacekeepers in two sites in the Deir Kiva region, near the Qalawiya Tower, were forced to move to safe places as a result of these attacks, which were seriously offered the lives of Lebanese soldiers, UNIFIL and civilians, at risk.

UNIFIL called on the Israeli army to immediately stop launching any additional raids, and commitment to the full withdrawal of Lebanese territory. She stressed the need for all parties to be committed to avoiding any violations or steps that would lead to an additional escalation.

All parties called for full commitment to the provisions of Resolution No. 1701 and with the understanding of the cessation of hostilities. She said that these mechanisms were set specifically to address differences and avoid resorting to violence unilaterally, stressing the need to benefit from them to the maximum limits.

The UN mission said that the continued escalation threatens the progress made by the parties in its efforts to restore stability.
