"Abu Dhabi Ports" Lay the foundation stone for "Nawatom Ports – Luanda Station"

Luanda- Angola on September 19 / WAM / The Abu Dhabi Ports Group, in cooperation with its Angolan partners, “Unkargaz” and “Malati Parks”, announced the basis stone for the “Nawatom Ports- Luanda Ports” project, marking the start of one of the largest updating and expansion projects in Angola.

The group will invest more than 250 million US dollars initially during the next three years, with the possibility of increasing the value of the investment to 380 million US dollars along the concession period of up to 20 years, which can be extended until 2055. The construction work in the “Nawatom Ports – Luanda Station” takes 18 months, to provide advanced infrastructure, advanced technical systems, and sustainable equipment, which enhances the position of a port Luanda as a pivotal naval and logistical portal, and one of the most competitive ports in the Central and West Africa region. The Abu Dhabi Ports Group has 81% of the joint venture to operate the multi -purpose station, and 90% in the company “Nawarum Unkargaz Logistics Services”, responsible for the Integrated Logistics Services Department, the fleet modernization, including refrigerated trucks and transportation and shipping services. On this occasion, Mohamed Al -Tamimi, CEO of “Nawatom Ports”, said: “The status of the cornerstone of the” Nawatom Ports – Luanda Station “represents an important strategic step for the Abu Dhabi and Angola Ports Group and the region as a whole. This pioneering project embodies our long -term strategy to provide a global infrastructure, and adopts advanced and sustainable logistical solutions, supporting regional trade International, and contributes to providing real development for local communities and through our modernization of this vital facility, we contribute to consolidating the position of Luanda as a pioneering marine and logistical center in the Central and West Africa region, as well as providing new job opportunities, supporting the development of skills, advancing economic growth, and enhancing linking the business and societies that we work with. ”

The project includes comprehensive development and modernization work to support the activities of the general cargo handling, containers and rolling ships at the station, thus the only station in the port of Luanda, in which the depth of the Eat, is 16 meters, which is qualified to receive and handle huge ships of the “Super Post Panamax”, whose load reaches 14 thousand stereotypes. The station will also include three cranes of the “Super Post Panamax”, and eight hybrid rubber bridges, supported by advanced equipment and technological systems to enhance operational efficiency, support sustainability, and simplify logistics. With the completion of comprehensive modernization work during the first quarter of 2027, the station will increase its capacity to handle containers from 25 thousand stereotypes to 350 thousand stereotypes, and from its ability to handle vehicles to more than 40 thousand vehicles annually. By employing its global network, the Abu Dhabi Ports Group will attract new shipping lines to the Luanda port, and to link Angola to the main international logistical corridors, which will support increased exports, reduce import costs, and enhance competitiveness at the local and regional levels. The project is expected to provide thousands of direct and indirect jobs in sectors that include logistical services, maintenance, and stations operation. The project will also include training programs and community initiatives, through which the local community is supported and empowered. The group also aims, through this investment, to enhance the position of Angola as a regional logistical center, to advance economic growth in the country, and to establish a broader base for industrial and commercial development. It is worth noting that during the past three years, the Abu Dhabi Ports Group has succeeded in expanding its spread in Africa, by allocating large investments throughout the continent, its total of $ 800 million in the port sectors, shipping and marine and logistical services in Egypt, the Republic of the Congo, Tanzania and Angola.
