The Great Duke of Luxembourg gave up the throne for his son
Today, Luxembourg Henry, the Grand Duke of Luxembourg, gave up the throne.
Henry, 70, had served the small Duchy in the heart of Europe for 25 years in a large symbolic role.
The new Duke of Luxembourg was installed during a traditional ceremony today, Friday, in the presence of royal figures and leaders of European countries.
The Grand Duke of Geum, from Luxembourg, the constitutional oath today, Friday, succeeded his father, Henry.
Prime Minister Luke Frieden described the celebration as a “historic moment” for the country with a population of 670,000, and is the only great Duke in the world.
Among the major politicians from all over Europe, King William Alexander, Queen Maxima attended from the Netherlands, King Philip and Queen Matid from Belgium.
The Grand Duke of Jummer (43 years old) will take office to succeed his father, Henry.
Later today, Friday, the Grand Duke is hosting an evening party for his guests, including French President Emmanuel Macron and German Frank Valter Steinmeier.
